I had conversations with 2 different people on Thursday about how difficult it is to keep a balance between work and family now that we're in ministry. That afternoon this shows up in my inbox from Leadership Wired:
OFF BALANCE? Balance has been a hot topic for the last several years, but that doesn't necessarily mean more people are achieving that elusive, ideal blend of work and personal life. Leaders, especially, often struggle with allowing their jobs to take too prominent a role in their lives.
According to the Center for Creative Leadership's Gordon Patterson, balance is about "having clarity about what matters to you and making sure you are taking care of those things consistently." (entire article)
I admit I'm a struggling work-a-holic ... some weeks are better than others. For a while though I've gotten really off balance so this article was a good nudge for me. The stuff I brought home to work on here-and-there over the weekend will just have to stay in my backpack along with the laptop. Once this post is published I'm shutting down this computer until Sunday afternoon...hope I can handle the withdrawl :-)
How's your balance? Do you have clarity? Are you consistent?
