A Beautiful Road
It's been a long road for Charlie Hall. This
past year has taken him down a path that has resulted in a lot of letting go, of
discovering who he's meant to be as a man, as a musician and — most importantly
— as a worshipper of God. And while the August 19 release of his sophomore
project, On the Road to Beautiful, may signify a destination reached,
for Charlie Hall, the journey has just begun.
While the shape of much of Hall's music has been determined by the season his church is in, other influences are beginning to shine through as well. "I ended up realizing that I like simple, mature music. I love the digital loops and insane noises, but when it comes down to it, what I relate to most is the simple stuff and that's the sound here," says Charlie of his new songs.
But whatever the style, Charlie is clear on his main mission: "My job is to hold up a magnifying glass and show God to everyone here." And in the process, he hopes to leave a little of his heart behind to remind people of the reason behind the music.*
Look forward to music and a fresh opportunity to worship with Charlie Hall at the Innovative Church Conference (ICC), September 29-30. This conference is designed to download Granger Community Church's current successes about how to meet people in the reality of their lives. It's about creating conversation. Releasing the arts to touch the heart. Developing new methods for communicating an unchanging message. This conference helps teams move beyond just "doing church" and encourages God's design for creativity and innovation.
The ICC is being hosted just
90 miles east of Chicago. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. The sessions will run
from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Food for lunch and breaks provided. Register by
August 29, 2005 to qualify for the Early Bird Rate of $219 per person. Early
Bird Group Rates for 2-5 people are $199 and for 6 or more $179. After August
29, add $20 to Early Bird rate per registration.

Jason,
Your comments about Charlie stirred a memory about a friend of mine at Elkhart Memorial High School about 20 years ago, Tracy Ferrie, who told my friends and me about his plans to play bass for Christian Rock bands. Tracy used to play tuba in our "Crimson Charger Command" (our marching band name) along with several of my friends who mostly played lower brass (I played trombone). So I googled him and found his mission appears to be strong! He was named about 6 weeks ago as the new Bass player for "Stryper"...a Christian 80's metal band that went multi-platinum. They are releasing a new album this August 16, and have a single "Reborn" out June 7. Prior to that it looks like we was in "Strange Celebrity", played with Michael Sweet, and "Sunset Strip" . Hopefully I (or another of my friends) can track him down via email. It would be cool to have another group campout or get together...our last one was about 10 years ago.

hey tom, you can at least go to stryper.com and also stryperforum.com and post there. Someone in the Stryper Camp will get the message to him I am sure.
