I've found a truly functional use for Facebook ... birthday reminders!
I logged into facebook this weekend and noticed Dean Lisenby listed in the upcoming birthdays box ... now there's a useful feature for a guy like me :-)
Dean leads a team of 24 some IT guys and gals at ACS Technologies. Our church is not an ACS customer, but I enjoy hangin' out with Dean ... he's the real deal. I've had the opportunity to hang with Dean at various roundtables, phone chats, the church IT podcast, and again last week at ministryCOM. He even shuttled Tony Dye and me around in his kewl hybrid rental car :-)
What impresses me most about Dean is that I never feel like he's trying to sell me something. He's an IT guy like the rest of us ... and he also has a heart for the Church that's quite transparent.
ChMS vendors take note! Get your IT guys vs. your sales guys involved in our roundtables. This will build your street cred when churches are shopping ChMS solutions. Dean has street cred out the waazoo in my book :-)
So a big Happy Birthday to Dean! Go wish him well over on his facebook profile
Seriously...I had more "happy birthday" wishes this year because of Facebook than I think I have in my whole life. :)

Dean is such awesome boss and friend!!! I can speak from experience, he really cares for our clients and what works for them. The Dean you see is the same Dean we see.

ok...so..this explains the sudden increase in activity in my facebook account! Cool. Thanks for the props! I do enjoy hanging out with the techies...

finally, my pastor (see previous comment!) thinks I'm coming in with a bomb... he has no idea that he's my test bed for ideas for the rest of the church world. Ok. Actually he does, and he STILL let's me in!
