Since I keep getting emails asking me what's up ... here's a follow-up to my prior post about gathering interest about some sweet-o SharePoint training ...
This free training opportunity ... courtesy of Bill English of MindSharp ... IS A GO!! Here are a few fresh details to be aware of ...
- DATES are locked in: Monday, Jan 7th through Friday, Jan 11 from 9am - 5pm with lunch and snacks provided each day.
- LOCATION now locked in:
Granger Community Church in Granger, INNorthwoods Community Church in Peoria, IL ... airport and hotel options to follow - ATTENDEES: Church employess ... NO consultants ... this is a stipulation from Bill himself. Basically, if you will gain $ from another organization based on what you learn here ... you're a consultant. If you are the IT volunteer for your church and not a consultant please shoot me a email and we'll discuss options.
Small teams are encouraged (Director/Project Manager + IT/Web) and we've raised to the registration to 80+ slots. - PRE REQUISITES: You or someone from your team that is coming should have basic skills in: Windows Server 2003, IIS, DNS, Active Directory, networking
- TRAINING: SharePoint Services OR SharePoint Server 2007 Administration and SharePoint Designer will be the main focus topics. This will take you all the way from installation best practices to customing the site code via Designer. You'll be able to take this knowledge and immediately apply it at your church.
- LAPTOPS: You are to bring your own Windows laptop which MUST have 2GB ram minimum! and 20GB free drive space minimum! Rental laptops will be available for under $200.
- COST: $150 for the week to cover lunch, snacks and such? A steal considering this training would cost anyone else $3200!!
- REGISTRATION: registration will go live in a day or so ... keep checking back for the official launch info.
I know many of you are chompin' at the bit to get registered ... please be patient as we're working out the last details as quick as possible ... and please continue to leave us your questions here
One big question remaining ... should the training be on SharePoint Services (free) or SharePoint Server 2007 ($350 + $7-25/user depending on options)?? I'm recommending we do Server which builds upon Services so we get exposed to what all is available in SharePoint. If after the training you decide to stick to Services much of what you learned still applies. So that's my bent ... what say YOU?
