I think somebody at Circuit City goofed and they are giving $100 rebates on the 40hr Tivo Series2 units ... that's on top of Tivo's $100 rebate. The deal ends today and I noticed that Circuit City's website no longer lists the deal (it did yesterday). I rushed to our local CC this morning and they were out ... but the sales rep found that one was scheduled to arrive at 5pm. If I bought it they would lock me into the rebates...even the rep said it was a crazy deal and yesterday people were coming in droves to snatch them up. So I plunked down $211 including tax...and the receipt printed out the 2 rebate forms each for $100. Sweet! A new Tivo for $11 :-)
I've been wanting a Tivo for a long time, but couldn't see spending $100+ on the unit plus the $13/mo for the service. An $11 Tivo unit ... that I can do.
The Series2 units have 2 USB ports...so instead of using a phone line to lookup programming info...I can slap a USB Wifi (hmm, perhaps my Airport unit will handle this?) and it will get programming info via my DSL connection.
If you read this today (Saturday) and don't have a Tivo ... call your local Circuit City stores and see if you can find one in stock.
I've already found several websites on hacking your Tivo ... to do stuff like install huge hard drives and such :-)
Goodbye VCR ... hello Tivo!
