Your hard drive will fail ... it's just a fact of life ... some will wait until after many years while others will die after a week or two. Is your critical data backed up? I really worry about small churches that aren't using a server for central storage. If you fit in this boat please help me sleep better at night by having a good backup strategy.
Here are a few backup solutions for a single computer, PC or Mac, that are worth checking out ... the latest product is the Exboot EXB-0131 from Fastori. It can backup your entire computer with the push of 1 button and be set to automatically syncronize with your computers hard drive to make sure new data is being backed up. Should your drive fail you can boot from the Exboot and continue working while you order up a new hard drive.
Of course I'd strongly recommend getting a server onsite if at all possible. For $1000 you can get an entry level server running Windows Small Business Server2003 with redundant drives for centralized storage as well as all the other benefits of server technology. Whatever you do make sure your critical data is backed up!
