Weds night our neighbor came over and offered us 4 tickets to see a Cubs game at Wrigley...they weren't able to go and couldn't find any Cubs fans who wanted them. It was very last minute and the game was Thursday at 1:20pm.
I'm not a sports nut...the only sports I watch is an occasional Nascar or Grad Prix, but I figured this would make for some great memories...and my 7 year old started baseball this year so I knew he'd be interested. So we took the tickets and started a mad scramble to figure out all the details like where to park, where to go, what to bring etc.
Tom Templin or "WiFi Tom" as I like to call him, is a Cubs fan so he was able to give me lots of great info on parking, etc.
So it was a great day of firsts ...
First time to ride the "L" ... both yellow and red lines
First time to watch a MLB game
First time at Wrigley Field
First time to eat a ballpark hotdog
First time to see an out-of-the-park home run ... man that ball was haulin'
Sadly the Cubs lost, but it was a great time none-the-less. The "beer guys" were in full swing and if I hadn't been still fighting a bit of a head cold I might have tried one...and I don't drink beer...but they made it sound soooo good ;-)
Stats:
Drive to Wrigley = 2 hours
Tickets = FREE!
Parking = $1.50
Train = $8.00
Peanuts = $2.25
Hotdog = $3.25
Water = $3.00
Ball "claimed" to be out-of-the-park Sosa hit from 2002 = bartered down to $5 from $10
Souvenir bat = bartered down to $5 from $10
Building memories = priceless
Ummm, I'm jealous!

Did you see Ferris Bueller there? "Sa-wing Battah!" Personally I would have tried the peanuts or those cookie ice-cream sandwiches - Big Kahuna, I think it's called.
