We currently have a data T1 with an additional T1 being lit up later this month along with our backup wireless broadband connection (which I use for our live streaming test).
I checked with SBC recently about getting a simple DSL connection for backup. Nada, they said they only have fiber around the church thus no DSL. I guess it's good to know fiber is available when we need it down the road.
So I checked with Comcast about getting a cable connection. After doing a site survey I got the quote last week. The nearest connect point they have is way down the road, but for $8000 they could get us connected. Umm, yeah, I don't think so!
$8k? Not bad! Comcast would only tell me that it would be 'around $10k' to run a line here, even though we have full conduit and pull strings to their trunk that is about 400 yards from our primary POP closet.
They quickly tried to change the conversation to a 'microwave service that is really great'. My comment was just about the same as yours. Ummm, yeah, I don't think so. ;)

Sounds about right - for COMCAST!!! I used to work for a church and back in 1999 (when it was AT&T Cable), they charged us $2000 for running a cable from across a stretch of grass. The church was on the same side of the street as the existing cable run and the juntion point on the telephone pole was nearly dead-center to our preschool building. Of course they did have to wind the coax through the facility to the telephone room and then to the server room. All of that was before the affordable T1 days, DSL was new on the scene and "not in our area", and what-in-the-world-is-wireless-internet??? Ahhh Memories :)
