Wow, the talkshoe website was CRAWLING this afternoon ... took me a good 15-20mins just to log in ... and others expressed the same lengthy delays :-( None-the-less, we had a good turnout with about 13 people online.
I just listened to the podcast and must apologize BIG TIME for my use of the word "uhhh" ... crud, I know it drives me nuts when others do that ... so again I'm very sorry. I will do MUCH better next time :-)
I was impressed with the audio quality compared to our last attempt using SkypeCast ... it's still a beta product, but I'm liking TalkShoe.
I also said the wrong URL for OpManager ... it's manageengine.adventnet.com
So if you want to listen to the recorded content just click this icon ...
iTunes users can click here
We'll be doing the next one in 2 weeks on Dec 15th at 2pm ... hope to see ya there.
UPDATE: I just got the stats report from the Talkcast today. According to Talkshoe we had 19 streaming listeners, 10 live participants, and as of 10pm tonight the podcast has been downloaded 16 times. The 10 "live participants" seems to match up with the number of us that were voice chatting. So I assume the other 19 listeners includes the 3 or so people that were in the text chat area and the 16 were just listening to the stream. So I'll call that 29 "live" listeners today. Thanks to all who tuned in.
UPDATE #2: Here's some rough notes from the show ... I'll try to add all the URL links at some point
PageDefrag - free single .exe file that will defragment your windows paging file and registry ... can make significant improvements on PC's that have not had their page files defragged. No, most defrag tools do NOT defrag the paging file as it must happen before windows loads. We're planning to put this into the next ghost image for all our PC's at GCC.
OpManager - network monitoring tool that is free for up to 20 devices
Dameware mini-remote control -
Advocent IP KVM -
SSL Explorer -
RPC over HTTPS Outlook connection -
Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 - upcoming service pack will include VSS for live backups of the VM
Contig - another free tool from sysinternals that will defrag large single files ... like those found in virtual server environments.
Microsoft now offering fully ready server installs via trial .VHD file downloads
Microsoft TechNet subscriptions
Look at Lan - free network monitoring tool
Nliteos.com - make your own slipstream CD's
Server manufacturer suggestions
monstastic - free network monitoring tools
dyndns.org -
Postini - anti-spam, anti-virus, "network" monitoring
process monitor - another sysinternals tool (we're going to replace windows taskmanager with process explorer in our next ghost image at GCC)
intravnews.com - RSS reader plugin for Outlook
Outlook 2007 - built-in RSS reader
reader.google.com
newshutch - RSS reader
bitdefender anti-virus
Financial Software Packages
Hurray! I'm on a podcast! I think it really turned out well Jason, meet you there on the 15th!

Fun times to be had by all on the 15th. :)
Dude, I'm with you on the "uhhh" "ummm" talk... I'm guilty as well.
Still, thanks for facilitating this. Very valuable.
We should probably snag the notes from each show, like the URLs mentioned, etc., and build them into a list to accompany your podcast post. (I couldn't find a transcript of our text chat, but that might suffice if it exists. Otherwise, we could have someone just jot the notes as we go...)

Hi - I'm Dave Nelsen, the founder and CEO of TalkShoe. It sounds like our "interactive podcasting" service is working well for you (functionally) but that you hit the website during a heavy load period. We've seen traffic increase by 9.9X in the last 8 weeks and you can imagine that that creates some challenges. Happily, in another 2-3 weeks we'll be thru those and prepared to support the 10X growth that we expect in the next 8 weeks. Have fun Talkcasting and please email [email protected] if you experience any future problems. We'll help you in every way possible. Thanks.

David R. - I checked and there is currently no way to grab the chat log from Talkshoe ... nuts. I hope they add that in the future as that would be a huge help.
I think having someone take notes as we go is a great idea ... you interested? ;-)
Dave N. - Thanks so much for your reply. Your service is totally worth some initial bumps ... you've hit a great niche :-)

This is great stuff (with or without the ummms :-). Now, where's that speech to text converter button? Looking forward to the next one.

Sure, I can jot the notes each go-round. :) In the event I have a scheduling conflict, we'd want to pass the torch to someone---but I should be around for the most part.

Many thanks to all the participants for sharing your experience and knowledge. As a significantly less experienced church IT person, I found your insights very helpful. I've already put Nlite to work this week and am considering Dameware. My ministry is more effective because of your willingness to share through this means. Thankyou.
